The first Bitcoin-only event in Africa kicks off today in Ghana

The first-ever Bitcoin-only event in Africa kicked off today in Accra, the capital of Ghana. About 800 attendees will follow presentations and discussions with Jack Dorsey, Alex Gladstein and Jack Mallers, among others, over the next three days. Topics such as adoption and use of Bitcoin in Africa will be the focus.

The first edition of the Africa Bitcoin Conference will be held December 5-7 at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra. Most countries in Africa have seen huge growth in Bitcoin usage in recent years, mainly Nigeria, Ghana and Togo. An interesting development. Despite the fact that the continent has the lowest internet use worldwide, the digital currency is relatively widely used.

At the event, Bitcoiners from different countries, professions and origins will speak. Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey will also give a presentation. Today was the first day of the conference with speakers such as Alex Gladstein from the Human Rights Foundation and Hermann Vivier from Bitcoin Ekasi talking about circular Bitcoin economies.

We want a borderless currency. But more importantly, we want a currency that reminds us of who we are. We want a currency for humanity. Farida Bemba Nabourema
