Spark: a new lightning interface

Spark was recently announced, a standalone user interface for making lightning payments. Spark ensures that you can use the lightning network as trustless as possible. Spark comes from independent developer Nadav Ivgi. The interface is available for Linux, Windows, macOS, Android and soon also for iOS. Like most lightning apps and tools, Spark is still mainly aimed at developers.

Spark is a simple interface that only supports lightning payments. Spark is set up in such a way that it can be used in combination with the user’s own full node and c-lightning node. This allows you to make completely trustless payments on the lightning network. More instructions on how to use it can be found in the announcement, and full details can be found on GitHub.

Below is a demonstration of the Spark interface in combination with the Nanopos point-of-sale lightning app (lapp) for a look at what the near future of lightning payments at the checkout could look like. Nadav Ivgi indicates that the interface may be expanded in the future so that it can also perform regular bitcoin payments, but for the time being it has been opted for optimization for the lightning network.

As the development of the lightning network progresses, it becomes more and more accessible for web developers and UI developers to implement interesting use cases and create beautiful user interface designs. For example, the lightning network is not only slowly becoming accessible to regular users, but the tools that other developers need to put lightning payments into practice are also slowly becoming available.
