Australian coronavirus: New South Wales state records 390 new cases of COVID-19 infection

New South Wales is the most populous state in Australia and has the largest city in the country, Sydney. It is the epicenter of the current Australian delta wave.

  • recent 239, 170, 210, 239, 207, 199, 233, 262, 291, 319, 262, 283, 356, 344, 345 and today’s new record of 390

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian says the upward trend in new cases is expected to continue for at least the next few days.

Of the 390 cases (COVID-19 cases acquired locally in the 24 hours to 8:00 p.m. yesterday):

  • 140 are linked to a known case or group
  • 98 remained isolated during their infectious period
  • 43 were isolated during part of their infectious period, 58 cases were infectious in the community and the isolation status of 191 remains under investigation … the way to read this is that as many as 292 were in circulation at some point while infected

Some more positive news:

  • total number of vaccines administered in NSW is now 4,801,310

Previously, the numbers of the neighboring state of Victoria

  • 15 new cases reported
  • 8 were quarantined during their infectious period (this is a key metric)
  • 11 of the 15 are linked to known cases of outbreaks, the other 4 are still under investigation (the ‘other 4’ are also a key metric and will be of concern to Victorian health authorities – several close-ups will be required. zero before the block is lifted)
  • capital Victoria, Melbourne (Australia’s second largest city) is on lockdown, the lockdown has been extended until next Thursday (at least).

Queensland

  • 7 new cases
  • All were in home quarantine and linked to the existing outbreak.

Australian Capital Territory (home to the capital, Canberra)

  • reported its first case in over a year yesterday and the area is now on lockdown.
  • I haven’t seen the numbers here until now.

This photo from yesterday’s local media (Australian Financial Review) provides an indication of when the locks may no longer be needed. Maybe.

Please note that the minutes of the August meeting of the Reserve Bank of Australia will be released on Tuesday of next week. se could shed light on the optimistic outlook for the RBA, which looks increasingly unsustainable as these numbers rise each week during the New South Wales outbreak. Sydney is in an increasingly difficult lockdown and fiscal support is no longer what it was at the time of the epidemics in 2020. Sydney is Australia’s largest city and as such a powerhouse of Australia’s national economy .
